GUTTERS ARE PART OF THE ROOF, NOT AN ACCESSORY
Gutters get treated as trim, which is why they’re so often the actual cause of problems blamed on the roof. Their job is to take every litre that lands on the roof and put it somewhere harmless. When they can’t, that water goes into the fascia, down the siding, and eventually against the foundation.
WHAT GOES WRONG
Undersized gutters that simply can’t carry a Midwest downpour. Poor pitch, so water stands in the run and the seams eventually give. Too few downspouts, or downspouts discharging right at the foundation. Sectional gutters whose joints open up over a few freeze-thaw winters. And blockage — a gutter packed with debris is a trough that overflows exactly where you least want it.
WHY SEAMLESS
Seamless gutters are formed to the length of the run on site, so the only joints are at corners and outlets. Fewer joints means fewer places to fail, which matters here because our freeze-thaw cycling is what works joints apart. If your fascia is already soft where the gutter attaches, that gets addressed at the same time — hanging new gutter on rotten fascia only buys a couple of seasons.
GUTTER QUESTIONS
How do I know my gutters are undersized?
The clearest sign is water sheeting over the front edge during heavy rain even though the gutters are clean. Overflow at corners, and stripes on the siding below the gutter line, point the same way.
Are gutter guards worth it?
They reduce cleaning frequency; they don’t eliminate maintenance, and any company promising otherwise is overselling. Under heavy tree cover they’re usually worth it. On an open lot they often aren’t.
Can you replace gutters without replacing the roof?
Yes, they’re independent jobs. If you’re doing both, doing them together is more efficient and lets us get the drip edge and gutter apron detail right, which is where the two systems meet and where edge leaks start.
Do you fix the fascia and soffit too?
Yes. Rotten fascia is common behind failing gutters, and it has to be sound before new gutter goes up. We handle fascia, soffit and the gutter as one job.
